An ordinary Japanese street. Ordinary people. In Tokyo, Yokohama or elsewhere. I like meeting people, watching them, looking into their eyes. It matters little that every meeting lasts only a short while, usually just a few seconds. The perpetual spectacle inhabited by human figures is thrilling. This book is a testimony to but a few of the meetings I experienced in Japan and have recorded through the lens of my camera. In this way, I can meet the people time and again, and imagine for myself what they might be thinking about, where they might be heading, what they might be like… And in this way, I often get the feeling that the street is not ordinary anymore, that they are not ordinary people anymore. I feel like understanding them, sympathizing with them, being one of them.
